Trooper Jacob Alexander Tidd-Cutlip

Happy 7th Birthday to the world's best bassett hound!!

Today's blog post is going to be all about Trooper in honor of his birthday.

He has brought me so much joy, anxiety, stress, sadness and happiness. Here is just a few major things we have been through together....

1.) College graduation
2.) First time living on my own
3.) Lost his BFF (RIP Zeus)
4.) Made two new BFF's (Mo and Ryder!)
5.) Will moving in with us
6.) A proposal (on his birthday 3 years ago!)
7.) An Iraq deployment for 7 months
8.) Became an uncle (x3)
9.) Wedding
10.) Became a brother

It's Trooper's world, we all just live in it. Let's start from the beginning shall we!?

On December 23, 2004 Will made me come over to his house so he can "show" me something. I will never forget walking in his house and him leading me straight to his bathroom. There sat the world's cutest bassett hound. Will introduced me to him as "Jethro" aka Trooper Jacob Alexander Tidd-Cutlip. He was just laying on a blankie waiting to meet his mommy. I immediately picked him up and loved on him...I still do it to this day.

I took him back to my parents house to show off the best gift I could ever imagine. I will never forget my mom's face when she saw "Jethro". She looked peeved/in love. She lectured us both on why I shouldn't have a dog in college. But we didn't listen...obviously...and boy am I glad I didn't listen this time.

He was so small. In fact, my mom had to cut a tube sock to put on him to keep him warm. He shivered all the time he was so cold. See, she loved him from the beginning...don't EVER let her fool you! That Christmas he went EVERYWHERE with me. We took him to Parkersbug to meet my sister-in-law's family, he went to all the Christmas Eve functions, etc. We were a match made in heaven.

We eventually went back to Morgantown and things got kind of hairy. I quickly learned it was hard to have a dog and maintain a social life. But we made it work. He just became a "college dog". He went to parties, had sleepovers with my friends, went on "bye, bye's" constantly. He tasted his first beer at his "aunt" Trish's house, I locked him in the car at Blockbuster with his Christmas sweater on. (When I called AAA I told them I locked my child in the car so they would get there faster. They weren't too pleased when they saw he was a furry child). He got into the trash more times than I can count and got into alot of things he shouldn't have (a year's worth of birth control-that was a hard one to explain to my doctor!). He even spent a summer with his Grammy and Grandy while I interned in DC (he claims he loved that summer, but wasn't fond of getting fixed). But we made it and we graduated from WVU. I say "we" because it took the both of us to get through college!

The only dog I know that LOVES his dog bed

After college I got a job in DC. I literally loaded up my car with my belongings and Trooper and I headed on our way to conquer a new city and life. He was my best friend in a city where I knew nobody.

After months of long distance dating, Trooper's dad moved to DC with us. He thought life was over as he knew it since he had to share his side of the bed. Yes, he sleeps in the bed, under the covers, with his head on my pillow most of the time. After almost a year of living with us living together he helped his dad propose to me on his birthday 3 years ago. It was perfect.

Since he couldn't be at the wedding, I kept him with me the whole time!

Then he hit rock bottom when his daddy left for a 7 month deployment in Iraq. He was so heart broken that he literally made himself sick. He was having seizures, vomitting, not playing with toys, etc. He went to the doctor and got a ton of tests run and then couldn't figure out what was exactly wrong with him. Finally, they referred me to a place called the "Hope Center" as kind of a last resort. We made an appointment and it happened to fall on a day when Will was just back from Iraq. We went to our appointment and the receptionist thought we were in the wrong place because Trooper was so hyper and excited (obviously not sick!). They took him to the back to check him out and we could hear him howling and carrying on. We looked at each other and said "the old Trooper was back." $1400 later, no diagnosis other than a broken heart. He has been fine since.

Playing with his cousin Mo at Uncle Matt's house

In the last 3 months I have seen Trooper become a big brother. It's something he is still trying to get used to, but he gets better everyday. He trys to act like he could care less, but he does. But mostly, he loves all things that come with having a sister-i.e.) the milk! Because of that, he doesn't think she is that bad.

It's hardwork babysitting

I'm not sure if he is babysitting or waiting on a free minute to snag the bottle?

Protecting his sister-it was short lived.

In the last 7 years, we have experienced more together than most dog/owner. And I couldn't imagine life with out him. I hope one day Harper will be so lucky to have a Trooper of her own.

Happy Birthday Buddy! Here is to 107 more years of joy, anxiety, stress, sadness and happiness!

TGIF

Thank goodness it's Friday. I've had what seems like a long week. I have had a couple of breakfast fundraisers this week-which means I have to be up at 4:30am. I.AM.EXHAUSTED!

I also feel like I haven't had enough time to spend with sweet Harper. But what time I do have I make the most out of it. I can't get over how much she is cooing. She is always "talking" to me when I come home from work. But she is ALWAYS flirting with her daddy. She loves her daddy. Maybe because it's like looking in the mirror. Although, I sometimes look at her and think she look alot like her Uncle Matt...poor thing! :)

We don't have much on the agenda this weekend. Today I'm going to chill out and relax. And tomorrow we are supposed to get our first nasty weather of the winter. Hopefully Harper will see her first snow! Sunday Harper and I will be doing some cuddling and baking. Someone (His name starts with a T and ends with a R) has a birthday coming up and has already requested a birthday cake.

Monday is a big day for the Cutlip Clan!! We will be celebrating 3 things....
1.) A 7th Birthday!!!
2.) Mine and Will's engagement
3.) Harper's first Halloween!

I will do a big reveal of her Halloween custom on Monday.  I would hate to spoil the surprise. And be watching for a special birthday post. He has been begging for me to write about him. You know Trooper, always looking for attention!

Last but certaintly not least Harper would like to wish her Uncle Thug a Happy 21st (you wish!) Birthday! Thug, I searched for hours looking for a picture of you and I could only find one with Lane at my wedding-so it will have to do. And in honor of your birthday we listened to Bone Thug N' Harmony last night. Harper really prefers Crossroads.

Happy Birthday Uncle Thug!!!!

Oh how life changes with a baby!

We are alive! I just keep forgeting my camera at home. So iPhone pictures will just have to do today.

We started the weekend off with a little celebration. Obviously, you can tell from the post below Will and I celebrated 13 years of "togetherness". We kicked off our celebration at lunch time with a lunch date at the house. Will surprised me with Wendy's chili (fancy, I know!) and a PETUNIA PICKLEBOTTOM diaper bag. The Rolls-Royce of diaper bags!  I had just said in my Friday meeting at work how bad I wanted a new diaper bag. Of course I was talking to fellow dad about Petunia Pickle bottom diaper bags, but I never dreamed I would actually get one. So of course, I spent my lunch unloading the old bag and loading up the new one. Oh how times have changed!

After work I was itching to go out and show it off. So in typical Tidd/Cutlip fashion we went out to Outback to celebrate 13 years. Harper slept the whole time and we enjoyed Outback Specials.

After dinner we just weren't ready to head home quite yet so we headed to Babies R Us to pick up a few things. Oh how life changes after a baby. We actually look forward to going there now. We made it home in time to watch WVU choke. Ugh, I don't even like to talk about it. Moving on...

Redneck baby watching the WVU game

On Saturday we went to the Zoo to celebrate 3 months of Harper. We had a great time. We watched lions play and elephants poop. We were worn out by the time we got home. But not too worn out to take Harper's 3 month pictures.
Happy 3 months Harper!

I LOVE owls. And notice her legs are blurry because she never stops kicking

On Sunday, while Will worked, Harper and I played dress up. We thought we were being clever and dressed up for the Eagles game. We were so proud of ourselves until Will responded to the picture message with "Cute, but no Eagles game this week". Oops...oh well, she makes the Eagle logo look cute (which is very hard to do).

Go Eagles

Our weekends have changed so much since having Miss Harper, but we wouldn't change a thing. Life is complete now.

Beautiful

I mentioned having Harper's pictures taken last weekend...here is a link. They are amazing!

Can she be anymore perfect?!

13 years....

Thirteen years ago today my happily ever after began today. Will asked me to be his girlfriend. In the past 13 years we have had our break ups and make ups, but it's been a fantastic time! I do have to admit though, the last 5 years have been the best. We moved in together, got engaged, had a deployment, had a homecoming, got married and welcomed Harper.

In the last 13 years I have seen Will grow from a "care free" teenage boy to a wonderful MAN and DAD.
I can't imagine a better daddy for Harper. Somedays I think my heart will explode with love when I see him holding and caring for Harper.

I can't believe it's been 13 years already...here is to another 113 years!

Here are some pictures of Will and I to celebrate this occasion.

Lucky

When I was at WVU I met and formed friendships with so many great people. I attribute Chi Omega for giving me such an amazing college experience. I enjoyed every second of my college days at WVU. When I look back I can't believe just how lucky I am. I'm lucky because I met life long best friends. And nothing is better than knowing you always have a friend to call.

Most of us girls are married or engaged with babies or babies on the mind. Instead of sharing tips on how to get into Bent Willey's for free (I know Maggie, we have to get there before 10pm so "asshole" doesn't charge us!) we are now exchanging wedding and baby tips.

Since I have had Harper I have told Will so many times how lucky and blessed I am to have such wonderful friends. I have honestly shed a few tears because I can't believe how lucky I really am. Here are a few examples:
1.)   Maggie was on babywatch 2011 when I was pregnant. Will was supposed to be on military training and Maggie was the go to if he was gone. Thank goodness, I had Harper 2 days before he was supposed to leave, so Maggie ended up being free from her duties. But that didn't stop her from travelling to the hospital as soon as I had her with doughnuts, balloons and a smiling face. She was one of first people to visit Harper in the NICU and was with Will as he fed Harper her first bottle. She was taking pictures the whole time. She was also there to to hold the bottles as I pumped into them...yeah it was ackward, but she has seen me in worse situations! Not a day goes by that I don't hear from Maggie. I'm just lucky!

2.)  I went to high school with Kristin (referred to as K.Hart), but we never really became friends until college. I regret not being close with her in high school. I missed out! Since I have had Harper, K.Hart hasn't missed a milestone. She is always thinking of me and Harper. I have honestly never met anyone so "sweet" and thoughtful in my life. Here is an example, I came home from work yesterday and checked the mailbox. We had nothing but flyers and one envelope addressed to Harper. We opened it up and it was from K.Hart and Michael. They had sent Harper all kinds of awesome things for her first Halloween. I mean how lucky is Harper?! Here is a picture...

Thank you so much Aunt Kay and Uncle Mike. Harper LOVES books, but more importantly thank you for loving Harper! :)

3.) Last but certaintly not least! I will never find another friend like Sarah. Again, she is always so thoughtful and kind. She alway knows just the right things to give. She is always surprising us with different little gifts. She will never know just how much they all mean to us. I will never forget one Christmas our doorbell rang it was a delivery for us from Sarah. She sent us the cutest little Bassett Hound Christmas tree ornament. We hang it proudly on our tree every Christmas and tell the story. She hasn't disappointed since Harper. She surprised us by ordering our favorite meal from Olive Garden when Harper was born. She and her sister have given me such peace of mind and wonderful parenting tips. You have no clue how much that has helped me! She even sent Harper a little SC onesie! The best new is, Sarah has the cutest little girl that is about 8 months older than Harper. You know what that means...BFF's!!!

All three of these girls bring a smile to my face almost daily and I'm just so lucky to have found them! And Harper is even luckier to have already met them.

Thank you girls for being Chi Omega's and bonding us together forever!

FYI-these are not my only friends, I have so many WONDERFUL and caring friends that I'm so blessed to have! I hope someday Harper will be as lucky as me.

Harper's 2 month Stats

I'm about a month behind in posting Harper's 2 month stats, but here they are:

Weight: 10 lbs, 11 oz --- 30th percentile
Height: 21.5 inches ---10th percentile
Head --- 75th percentile!!!

As you can see, Harper is a little peanut, well except for her head measurement (thanks Will)! I worry alot about her size, but I just have to keep telling myself I have a petite little girl.

She is still eating only breastmilk. She takes about 4oz every 3 hours like clockwork. Somedays she doesn't feel like finishing a bottle, but after a little break she will drain it.

She goes to bed around 9:30 and sleeps until 3 or 4 am. She wakes up and eats and immediately goes back to sleep until around 8:00am. She sleeps in her own crib, but LOVES to sleep in her Nap Nanny also.

Harper is very interested in TV and loves to watch "Dancing with the Stars". She is starting to get more vocal by cooing and yelling. We absolutely love it. She has also figured out how to laugh. Her smiles are more common than not. Harper smiles the most during her 3am feedings. Sometimes she doesn't want to eat because she is smiling so much.

She only cries when she is hungry, bored or sleepy. Nothing a pacifer or bottle won't fix. She loves her bouncy seat that vibrates and her swing. She HATES tummy time, we only get the bare minimum in each day. She has recently discovered her activity mat and LOVES it. She talks to her all her friends that hang from it.

Playing with her Cousins (The Tidd Kids)

Lastly, Harper loves to be on the move. Nothing makes her happier than when she is out and about. She will spend all day shopping if you take her. She just loves to be in a new place and take everything in.

Tailgating at her first WVU football game

That is just a little bit about Harper. She will be 3 months old on Saturday!

One more picture of Harper with her Grammy and Grandy! She has them wrapped around her little finger!
So much love in this picture

Hairy!

I just came across this picture...is it not just awesome!?
This picture was taken last weekend. Harper and her cousins (The Tidd kids) were supposed to go to a pumpkin patch but we got rained out. So we ended up at the mall and this is what she wore. We weren't too bummed about not making it to the pumpkin patch since we went to one the weekend before. Here are a couple of pictures for your viewing pleasure! :)

Rock you like a Hurricane

We survived our QUICK weekend trip to Hurricane. We lived up to the name of this blog-it was for sure chaotic!

We planned to leave town around 1:00pm on Friday. Sounds easy right?! Not when you are a Cutlip! We had to stop and get gas and go "shopping" in the gas station. Typical Cutlip thing to do apparently!

Once we all got loaded back into the truck, I realized I forgot my wedding bands at the house. I bet you are wondering why I even had my wedding bands off in the first place. One of the great things that has happened since having Harper is a major weight loss-almost 50 pounds! Which means my wedding bands don't fit anymore. But I still try to wear them as often as possible because they are to pretty (and expensive) not too. So we turned around and picked them up.

We (re)pulled out of the house at 1:50pm. We decided since it was the perfect fall day, we would take the more scenic route, which doesn't necessarily add more time, just prettier. Things went smoothly until we decided it was time to stop at our half-way point and feed Miss Harper and gas up. This took about 20 minutes. As we were sitting there playing with Harper we kept hearing emergency sirens. But it never even dawned on us that it could effect our trip. We loaded back up and got on the entrance ramp of the interstate . IT WAS BACKED UP FOR MILES! We couldn't even get on the interestate.

Miss Blue eyes playing in the car!

Waiting in traffic!

I told Will to turn around, I know every short cut there is to know it that town! We navigated ourselves through every short cut, but the traffic was just as bad everywhere else! 2 hours later, we were back on the interstate. Which meant, it was ALMOST too late to have Dad's tacos. But he had them ready for when we walked in the door. Shewww!

On Saturday Grammy, Harper and I all shopped until we literally dropped. I'm talking we were exhausted by the end of the day. But we had a GREAT time. It's so nice to be able to go shopping with my mom. Those are the days I miss living near my parents. When Will got back from his military duty, we headed over to his Dad's house. Harper hung out with her grandparents, uncle's and cousins. She was exhausted that night. So exhausted, she slept through the night. Only woke up to eat, then woke up for the day at 10am.

I woke up Sunday to Harper and Grandy watching Cocktail. One of my all time favorite movies and one of Grandy's (well and mine) all time favorite soundtracks! It was a sweet sight.

"Just having breakfast and watching Cocktail with Grandy!"

Sunday was the much anticipated picture day. We had shopped and bought the PERFECT outfits and accessories. She was going to look adorable. Well, apparently, she was still exhausted and the one little detail she forgot to pack was a smile. She was so grumpy! I have never seen Harper so grumpy! But the photographer assured me he got fabulous pictures. I'm just hoping for one good one at least.

We didn't get back on the road until 6pm. And it was a late and long drive home. We walked through the door at midnight-after I was in the yard puking! Apparently I get car sick now that I'm a mom! Who would have thought?!

Will and I both made it to work today, but not without bags under our eyes! I'm looking forward to going home and cuddling with my sweet baby girl and waiting on her daddy to come home! And maybe unpacking too!

I promise I will remember to bring my camera to work tomorrow so I can upload some photos on here.

More pictures!

Back on track

Now that I've gotten caught up on how the Cutlip Clan came to be, let's get to the everyday stuff!

This weekend we are heading to Wild, Wonderful West Virginia for Will's military duty. Of course Harper and I are tagging along so we don't miss a chance to see her Grammy and Grandy. And Trooper would be heart broken if we didn't take him. So we are loading up and heading 6 hours south.

I think I'm most excited to have my Dad's famous tacos tonight for dinner! They are honestly the BEST!

While Will is doing his military thing, we are planning on shopping on Saturday and maybe visiting my amazing friend Sarah and her baby girl Emmalin. I hope the stars align so we can meet up. She is busy moving back to her hometown. Lucky girl!

And on Sunday afternoon I'm having some professional pictures taken of Miss Harper. The weather is supposed to be perfect, so I hope they turn out good.

So between tacos, shopping and pictures I just look forward to spending time with my family and relaxing. Nothing like a nice WV fall weekend!

Have a great weekend!

First 2.5 months!

3 days after giving birth, it was time to bring Miss Harper home to meet her brother and see her home. My brother (her Uncle Matt) played photographer and snapped tons of photos of her journey home. Thanks Uncle Matt! We pulled into our house and were welcomed by balloons, posters, neighbors, my mom and her Aunt, cousins and brother. Everyone was so excited to meet her, she says she was excited, but she slept right through it.

We snapped more pictures of her and her cousins. Trooper investigated her to try to figure out what the heck she was. He still thinks she is a puppy. He has no clue. After the intial meet and greets, I was EXHAUSTED! And my ankles and legs were beginning to look like tree stumps-the lovely side effects of a c-section. I decided I was going to take a nap while I could. Of course Harper joined me. And Will and Matt played playstation all evening. It was a great evening, it was nice to be surrounded by family. Harper is a lucky girl.

I think I forgot to mention that Harper shares a birthay with her Aunt Kara. Poor Kara didn't get much attention on her birthday, but hopefully some day Harper will make it up to her.

Back to the first 2.5 months...

I was off work for a total of 9 weeks. The fastest 9 weeks of my life. We packed in as much as we could in those 9 weeks. Two trips to WV, Emma's 2nd birthday party, another surgery for me, a broken tooth for Will, Mountaineer football game, Harper's first cold, first set of shots and meeting all of her "aunties"! I could barely wait to get Harper back to WV to meet all of her extended family and experience WV for herself. Her Grammy and Grandy hosted a cookout at their house for everyone to come and meet Harper. She was able to meet all of her grandparents, Aunt and Uncles, some of her great Aunt and Uncle's, 2nd cousins and tons of my friends. It was a successful trip. She was such a good baby. I think it meant she loves WV!

She also made it to her first WV football game. And it was a HOT one! And of course WVU beat Marshall. She had a blast. She hung out alot with her cousins that game.

After the WVU football game, I began having more gallbladder problems of course, so you guessed it, another surgery for me! Which meant Grammy had to come stay with us for a week. We are forever gratful for her help. We love her so much!

A few weeks after my surgery, we were watching another WVU football game and eating lunch and Will broke his front tooth again. He had to get that repaired ASAP.

And Harper also had a visit from her "Auntie" K.Hart and "K.Mom". She was a good girl of course. She was excited to put a face to the name. She already loves K.Hart like I do!

My last week of maternity leave we had Harper's 2 month checkup. It confirmed just how tiny she is. She weighed a whopping 10lbs 11oz and 21.5 inches long. She was in the 40th percentile for weight and 10th percentile for height! And of course having those Cutlip genes-her head was in the 75th percentile!! But the 2 month check-up also meant her first set of shots. Ugh, it was HORRIBLE! Poor thing, but I know it's for the best.

I know I'm leaving out a ton of stuff from her first 2.5 months, but I'm just trying to hit the highlights and get caught up.

Welcome!

We have decided we should start a blog for growing family! If you don't know by now, then you are probably living under a rock, but the Cutlip's welcomed a beautiful, perfect and tiny baby girl to our clan.

Harper Alizabeth Cutlip
July 22, 2011
6:50am
6 lbs 11oz  and 19 3/4 long

She decided that 9 months was entirely to long to have to wait to meet her awesome parents and brother, so she surprised everyone 5 weeks early. I bet you are dying to do know how she entered this world...let me tell you!

You name it went wrong in my pregnancy. Kidney stones (twice)-check!, Unexplained rash-check, gestational diabetes scare-check, pregnancy induced high blood pressure-check...I could keep naming issues, but it will get old really quick...trust me on this! So each and every doctor's appointment was filled with it's ups and downs and downs and downs. On Tuesday, July 19th I woke up with a headache and nauseous. Sounds about right for someone who is 35 weeks pregnant, but something just seemed off. I called my OB and she wanted me to come in right away. I made it to the office, but they quickly decided it was best for me to head to the hospital. So to the hospital I went! By this time, I quite familiar with the Labor and Delivery floor and the nurses even knew me! They hooked me up to monitors and watch baby Harper to make sure she was doing okay. I was having quite a few contractions. That is when my OB dropped the bomb that I needed to be put on bedrest. My blood pressure was a little too high for comfort and it was best that I go on bedrest. I specifically remember asking my nurse during my discharge if she thinks I will stay on bedrest the rest of the pregnancy she said, "oh yeah, the doctor is hoping this will be able to buy you another week." WHAT?! I was only 35 weeks pregnant!
So I went home in denial and decided I needed to figure out exactly what I'm going to do. First order of business, contact my work and let them know. They were very nice and willing to do what they can, but I told them I would be in the next day to finish some things up. And that I did. I couldn't help it, the thought of bedrest was horrible.
I had a follow up appointment on Thursday, July 21st. I went in and my blood pressure was even worse! Off to the hospital again. This time Will was with me. We get to the hospital and they checked us in. By this time, I'm still in denial and working from my iPhone-taking phone calls, sending emails, etc. They show us to our room and I say to Will, "they are acting like we are having a baby today, are we missing something? They never mentioned it us!" He said, "no honey, they would have said something to us." Little did we know...

Nurse comes in and tells me to pee in a cup, put a gown on and she will be right back to hook me up to get things rolling....WHAT?! We ask if we are having a baby today and she says, "maybe, but probably more like tomorrow!?" Huh?! Talk about the typical first time parents...we freaked a freak!

Now starts the longest/most anticipated 13 hours of my life. We called our parents to share the exciting news. We started flipping out about who will let Trooper out, how are we going to get some of our belongings to the hospital since I didn't pack a bag, and what will Harper wear since we had done nothing to prepare her clothes yet! And better yet-OUR HOUSE WASN'T CLEAN AND WE WERE GOING TO HAVE VISTORS AND EVENTUALLY BRING OUR SWEET BABY GIRL HOME!  Pancic-shear panic set in!

My parents and Will's mom made it in record time and I was still in labor! By this time, the nurse's had a shift change and I had my all time favorite nurse-Mia. What a blessing Mia was, she was incredible. I had had her as my nurse when I was hospitalized for kidney stones, so I knew I hit the jackpot when she came in the room. And I was even more lucky when my favorite OB was on call. Things could have been worse I guess.

12 hours later, Miss Harper decided she didn't want to come out, emergency C-section it is! Doctor came in at 5:45 to tell me they were going to perform a C-section and I needed to get prepped. My mom woke Will up out of a dead sleep as they were wheeling me away. He was so out of it.

At 6:50 am...out came Miss Harper. She had so much hair, we were shocked! A NICU team of nurses were waiting on her to take her to the NICU since she came before 37 weeks. As the nurses were cleaning her up and I was being stitched up, we decided on her middle name, Alizabeth. After about an hour of recovery, my nurse wheeled me into the NICU to meet my baby and she was just perfect. Laying so calmly in her isolette. I was SHOCKED by all of her hair. But I wasn't shocked that she looked just like her Daddy.

The next three days seemed like a blur. We had vistors, sleepless nights and lots of cuddle time with our new baby.

We have been blessed with what I like to say "the perfect baby!" She was hard to cook, but she is an amazing little girl. I'm so lucky and I can't wait to see what she will have in store for us!
